Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bumia, has big for our country. He wants us to win medals at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles! This exciting goal was shared when he launched his manifesto for the upcoming 2024 elections.
Now, Ghana is full of amazing talent in lots of sports. But, in the past, we haven’t done so well at the Olympics. We’ve only gotten five medals in total. It’s a bit sad that we’ve only won one medal in the last thirty years—that one was from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
To change this story, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader has come up with some smart plans. These plans include better funding, training programmes, and a stronger focus on doing well at the Olympics.
During the NPP Manifesto event in Takoradi, Dr. Bawumia launched something called “Operation Olympics Glory.” He said, “We will kick off ‘Operation Olympics Glory’ to get our athletes ready for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.”
This initiative will focus on sports in which Ghana can win medals. The goal is to make sure resources are used wisely for the best results.
Besides all that Olympic excitement, Dr. Bawumia also proposed a new idea: creating the Ghana School Sports Secretariat. This group would work with the Ghana Education Service & sports federations to help grassroots sports grow through schools. This way, we can build a strong foundation for future champions!
